Maternity Reflexology

Reflexology during those special times

Maternity Reflexology is a branch of reflexology which is specific to women during pregnancy, labour and the post natal period after birth. The therapist is trained not only to give a specialised treatment but also to have an in depth understanding of the changes that occur during the three trimesters so that the client can be supported both physically and emotionally. Treatment is always specific to each individual.

Nina can visit your home if you are unable to attend the clinic because of your pregnancy.

If you are desperate for a Reflexology treatment, for example if you are over due your confinement date, do please phone as I can often fit you into my schedule the same day.

During Pregnancy

Research has shown that women who have regular reflexology treatments during pregnancy tend to have less pain relief. Two recent studies have shown that reflexology in pregnancy significantly reduced pain during labour; the result is a more positive birthing experience.

VALIANI M ET AL (2010) Reviewing the effect of reflexology on pain and outcomes of the labour of primiparous women. Iranian Journal of Nursing and Midwifery Research. 15(Dec) p302-310

Reflexology relaxes the client and aids the body to restore equilibrium and balance itself. The body is affected by hormonal and physiological changes which can result in a number of tedious symptoms which if you are pregnant you will be completely aware of.

It is impossible to give further details about the benefits of Reflexology during Pregnancy here on this page so you are invited to call Nina and have a chat to see how she might be able to support your issues.

Nina has over 22 years of experience supporting clients with Reflexology and has vast experiences. Every client is assessed during their first consultation and will be given individual specific advice and reflexology treatment.

Reflexology can aid stress & anxiety and increase energy levels; important when trying to run a home and work at the same time. Many women feel tearful & vulnerable during this special time in their lives; hormones and emotions play a large part in what should otherwise be a time of preparation and happy anticipation.

Reflexology enables the client to be at their best both physically and emotionally for the birth of their new baby and to be able to initiate breastfeeding without problems.

Providing both mother and baby are ready, reflexology can support hormones necessary to promote labour.

Although most ladies are unable to have a reflexology treatment each week during pregnancy Nina does recommend the benefits gained from a weekly treatment during the last month of pregnancy.

With this in mind Nina offers a special package of 4 maternity treatments for £160, a saving of £20.

During Labour

Some women who have had reflexology during their pregnancy find reflexology treatments at the commencement of their labour help with relaxation so that the contractions can be tolerated more easily. Other benefits may also follow.

During the Post natal period

footGetting “back to normal” can take longer than anticipated after the birth and reflexology can be a great support during this period and beyond. Having an hour away from the demands of baby and all the jobs a new Mum needs to do to in order to be pampered is extremely beneficial. However, the advantages of having a Reflexology session are numerous including feeling more relaxed, improving your mood, and putting things into a better perspective. The outcome of this is an improvement in those niggly health problems that occur as part of the post natal period.

Pre-conception

Being in the very best of health before commencement of a pregnancy is important for both the mother and the new being that will totally depend on Mum in the womb. Reflexology will support hormonal balance and reduction of stress levels, and as a qualified Nutritional Therapist, Nina can advise on diet, lifestyle changes, and possible beneficial supplements that would improve health and wellbeing. Partners would also benefit from similar treatments.

Sub-fertility – fertility issues

The Association of Reflexologists can provide evidence based on members’ feedback, that reflexology can improve the chances of those clients experiencing sub-fertility with an average 50% finding themselves pregnant within 6 months of commencement of treatments.

Reflexology can be given alongside drugs such as Clomid & IVF.

Waiting to see if pregnancy has occurred each month is very distressing emotionally and added to life’s general stresses can have a negative affect on hormonal balance. Specific areas of concern can be addressed with changes to lifestyle and nutrition along with Reflexology. Sub-fertility is not un-common before a 2nd or 3rd pregnancy.

This therapist has much success supporting difficulties with conception.
